On the ipod...

I bought the new Getty project Awaken the Dawn several weeks ago and gave it a quick listen on the way home from Lifeway. Since then I haven't really sat down to listen, until the last few days. I was a bit skeptical at first because it would be hard to match their previous release, In Christ Alone, in terms of lyrical content and melody but the new release is growing on me. The title is taken from Psalm 57:8-9: "Awake, my glory! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praise to You among the nations." Truly the Gettys are serious about singing to the nations the glory of God. This Irish husband and wife team are perhaps the best hymn writers of our age and have their songs sung regularly across the globe. This new CD is a worthy addition to their catalog of worship songs and although there is no standout track such as "In Christ Alone" these songs will no doubt be catching on in the next few years in congregation after congregation. Until then, I will get to enjoy them on my ipod as a treasure that not everyone has yet found...but I invite you to take a listen and enjoy. This CD deserves multiple replays not only from the Irish flavored arrangements but from the thought provoking lyrics that point us to our Sovereign Lord.
