Ethan and the Papparazzi

I have been meaning to sit down and create a new post for the past two weeks, but time has not allowed me that luxury. I hope to find time to sit down and write this weekend. Until that time here are a few more pictures of Ethan. It seems that he has parents who have transformed into papparazzi when it comes to snapping pictures.

What Happened to All my Extra Time?

It is Thursday afternoon and I am still trying to finish Sunday morning's sermon.
Below are a few pictures of where all my extra time has gone.

Sunsets in Southeast Texas

Mondays are always a transitional time for me. It is both the start of a new work week and a time of reflection on the previous day's events. I begin to look forward to what God has in store for the church next Sunday and look back at what He has accomplished this past Lord's day...I find myself caught in this place between what has happened and what needs to be done. It is a hectic place for the mind to reside.

Therefore, at the end of the day I try to stop everything and simply dwell on the Lord's blessings in areas of my life other than church. Tonight, Summer and I had the opportunity to visit with some friends, gaze for hours at our son's facial expressions, and enjoy the brilliant colors of a sunset over the gulf coast. How many nights I miss these simple blessings because my mind is too pre-occupied to enjoy them...but God pours them out in spite of my blindness. May God continue to open my eyes to enjoy his daily blessings.

Children at Church

I experienced a "first" today as I walked through the doors of our local church. Today marks the first Sunday that Summer and I have brought our son to Sunday School and worship. He is just over six weeks old and the doctor cleared him to leave the house.
I had to smile at the thought of how God has blessed my life through His church. I was Ethan's age when I was first brought through the doors of First Baptist many years ago. My parents probably did not give much thought to that first introduction to the body of Christ, and yet God has used it in an incredible way. Now I get to pass that same blessing on to my child. I hope that Summer and I will model for him the the importance of Christ and a commitment to church. Deuteronomy 6:4-7 comes to mind:

"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with
all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments
that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them
on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when
you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

Ethan seemed to enjoy his first day at church, although he slept through most of it. Although now that I think about it, that description may fit a few of our adults as well. Regardless, I hope that this is the first of many days that our son spends with the body of Christ.
