Saturday Night and No Sermon

This is quite an unusual Saturday for me. By the time the sun sets on most Saturday evenings, I am turning my thoughts to tomorrow's message. However, because I underwent sinus surgery on Wednesday I will be home recovering rather than preaching the morning sermon. While I enjoy the time off to heal, there is a part of me that already misses being at church in the morning. It is an incredible privilege to preach the word of God to His people, and I treasure the opportunity God has given me. So I will enjoy tonight, but look forward to next week and delving into the depths of God's word once again. For all those who have been praying for me, thank you. The surgery was perfect and the recovery is going great.

A Tale of Two Teams

College football season has finally arrived, and Ethan is ready to spend a Saturday afternoon on the couch taking in the sights and sounds of my favorite sport. The great thing about Saturday is that if I time it just right I can watch football all day and now I finally have someone to enjoy the games with me. Summer is gracious enough to join me some of the time - but she just can't seem to understand how I can keep football on all day.
I have already decided that Ethan likes college football (primarily based on the fact that he is not crying at the present moment), but the trouble for Ethan is that he is expected to cheer for two teams - the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas A&M Aggies. I have already been busy explaining why Alabama is the greatest college team of all time, but sometimes I have to reserve these talks for when his Aggie mom is out of the room. Needless to say, the odds are that these two teams will rarely face each other on the field - so Ethan is safe cheering for both...for now. Let's hope bowl season doesn't change that. Below are a few photos of Ethan enjoying his two favorite teams.

An Anniversary and a Surgery

Well, Summer and I certainly have a grasp on "Unique Ways to Celebrate an Anniversary". Instead of checking into a fancy hotel for the occasion, we checked into the local hospital for an unexpected surgery. Instead of enjoying a bucket of popcorn and a movie on the silver screen, we settled for a video rental on my laptop...on the third floor of the hospital.
Yes, it has been an interesting couple of weeks as Summer discovered she had gall stones and kidney stones...in both kidneys. While this is not the way we imagined spending our three year anniversary - it worked. After all, anniversaries really aren't a celebration of fancy dinners and nice hotels - they are a celebration of your spouse and the marriage God created. In Summer I have "found the one my heart loves" (Song of Solomon 3:4) and I thank God for the blessing of my wife.
P.S. - Summer is doing much better now and is recovering quickly. Praise God for His provision.
