Shepherd's Conference: Day 1

Day one is officially over, but what a day! The morning began with John MacArthur preaching a surprising, yet interesting sermon on God's sovereignty, Israel, and eschatology. I'm sure that Challies has a detailed breakdown of the message. After a great lunch catered by Stonefire Grill, I had the opportunity to listen to Phil Johnson and Steve Lawson - not a bad way to spend the afternoon. In the evening, C.J. Mahaney filled in for John Piper whose father passed away Tuesday. Mahaney preached a wonderful message on humility in God's servants. I recommend the MP3 download, but be prepared...it is roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes long.

The wonderful people of Grace Community continue to amaze me with their service and hospitality. I look forward to Day two. Below are a few pictures of today's events including one of Tim Challies answering questions at the Scholar's Desk (a new addition this year) regarding blogging.

California Dreaming...

This was supposed to be yesterday's post on my trip to California for this year's Shepherd's Conference. Yet, it would more aptly be titled "Dreaming in California" as I was tired and went to bed before typing anything. Yet the day was great. My flight on Southwest airlines was smooth and gave me time to finish David McCullough's 1776 with time to spare. In addition, the plane landed 25 minutes early - a rarity for any airline. This allowed me to get my rental car early and avoid rush hour traffic in LA. The weather is near perfect, and the conference is off to a great start.
